Nursing Shortage Threatens Health Care
By Molly M. Ginty

In Denver, 78-year-old Mary Heidenreich died when a nurse who had flunked a medication competency test accidentally gave her a fatal dose of intravenous drugs.

In Wichita, Kan., 38-year-old Deedra Tolson bled to death after an emergency hysterectomy when her nurse, busy caring for 12 other patients, failed to hear her feeble cries for help.

In Alliance, Ohio, 30-year-old Lisa Vitale was waiting to give birth when she felt searing pain rip through her abdomen. (WOMENSENEWS)--The U.S. Department of Labor has a news flash for American women--a message they definitely did not count among their reasons for Thanksgiving yesterday.

A recent department survey tells us that the average working woman spends about twice as much time as the average working man on household chores and the care of children.

This is the same picture that has been painted for a long time, of exhausted women on the "second shift" and couch-potato men not pulling their weight. But is it accurate? Are women really getting lazy husbands for the holidays?

Not really.

Other findings paint a different picture........

Ahead-of-the-Pack Resumes
by Marty Nemko

These resume tips have helped my clients find good work: An employer usually decides whether to dump a resume within 15 seconds, so those first moments with your resume better be good. Make it easy to read. The busy employer is relieved to see a resume that looks easy to read: mostly bullets with just a few words next to each, and plenty of white space.

After you’ve drafted your resume ask yourself: · Except for any necessary jargon, could a high school student understand it? · Even if not paying full attention, will the reader still understand what I wrote and be motivated to interview me?..........
