Nurse and Husband Fulfill Lifelong Dreams

After working as a staff nurse for almost 35 years, Roberta Townson, MS, RN, made the decision to leave her hometown of Summerville, South Carolina, to become a traveler.

It wasn't the career opportunities or financial incentives that persuaded this extraordinary nurse to make the change. Instead, it was her husband's ailing health that prompted her to embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

"One evening, shortly after my husband was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy and put on permanent disability, I was paging through a nursing magazine at work," recalled Townson. "I came across an advertisement that asked the question: 'Why not travel?' After reading this, I realized that I didn't have one good reason not to."

"I'd never considered travel nursing before, but after giving it some more thought, I realized that it would be the perfect opportunity for Gene and I to explore all the places we'd always dreamed about visiting," she said. "I wanted him to see and do everything he possibly could, and to live the last few years of his life to the fullest." .........

Lyn Varrati, RN, and her family enjoyed the wide open spaces and unhurried pace of life in Nebraska. They never thought about the possibility of living anywhere else. That is until Varrati's five-year-old daughter, Marissa, was approached by Hollywood's top talent agencies.


The management company and agency who wanted to sign her were both based in Los Angeles," Varrati explained. "That's when we realized that living in Nebraska presented us with some logistical problems."
