Staffing In the Newborn Nursery

“Hello, Doctor,” said the nurse over the phone. “We have another circumcision for you up here in the newborn nursery. Will you be able to get here by this afternoon? The baby is going home today.”
Like most days of my professional life there was no time to just run over to the hospital. I would have to see the baby at the end of the day. “I’ll be over shortly after five o’clock when I’m done in the office. Make sure that’s alright with the parents?”
With the last patient of the day finished I walked over to the hospital nursery. Expecting my arrival, the nurse had thoughtfully assembled all the necessary instruments for the procedure. “I put the little guy in restraints,” she smiled painfully. “He’s all bundled up and waiting for you.” We knew with certainty that the baby now crying vigorously behind the curtain was not eagerly anticipating my knife.
